Gluten-Free Caesar Dressing Recipe
Craving a classic Caesar salad but avoiding gluten? You’re not alone! Traditional Caesar dressing often contains Worcestershire sauce, which typically includes soy sauce (and therefore, gluten). But fear not, Caesar salad lovers! This recipe provides a delicious and easy-to-make gluten-free Caesar dressing that tastes just as amazing as the original.
This recipe uses simple swaps to ensure it’s completely gluten-free without sacrificing any of that signature Caesar flavor. We’ll be using a gluten-free Worcestershire sauce alternative (readily available at most grocery stores or online) or a blend of tamari and other ingredients to mimic that umami depth. Be sure to always double-check the labels on all ingredients to guarantee they are certified gluten-free, especially the Worcestershire sauce replacement.
What You’ll Need:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise (check label for gluten)
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (real Parmesan is naturally gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
- 1 tablespoon gluten-free Worcestershire sauce alternative (or 1 teaspoon tamari + 1/2 teaspoon anchovy paste + pinch of smoked paprika)
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Optional: 1-2 anchovy fillets, finely chopped (for extra flavor)
Instructions:
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, Parmesan cheese, lemon juice, gluten-free Worcestershire sauce alternative (or your tamari blend), minced garlic, Dijon mustard, and black pepper.
- Slowly drizzle in the olive oil while whisking continuously until the dressing is smooth and emulsified.
- If using anchovy fillets, stir them in now.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed. Add more lemon juice for tanginess, Parmesan for cheesiness, or pepper for spice.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. This also helps the dressing thicken slightly.
Serving Suggestions:
This gluten-free Caesar dressing is perfect for classic Caesar salads, of course! But it’s also delicious as a dip for vegetables, a topping for grilled chicken or fish, or even as a spread on sandwiches. Enjoy!
