Gluten-Free Bibimbap Recipe

Bibimbap, meaning “mixed rice,” is a vibrant and delicious Korean dish. Traditionally, some ingredients may contain gluten, making it unsuitable for those with dietary restrictions. This recipe provides a flavorful and satisfying gluten-free version of this classic dish.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked white rice (ensure it’s gluten-free)
  • 1/2 lb ground beef (or substitute with mushrooms or tofu for vegetarian option)
  • 1 tbsp gluten-free soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 carrot, julienned
  • 1 cucumber, julienned
  • 1 cup spinach, blanched
  • 1 cup bean sprouts, blanched
  • 4 shiitake mushrooms, sliced and sautéed
  • 4 fried eggs
  • Gluten-free Gochujang sauce (Korean chili paste)
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the beef: In a bowl, combine ground beef, gluten-free soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic, and pepper. Mix well and set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the seasoned ground beef until browned and cooked through.
  3. Prepare the vegetables: Julienne the carrots and cucumber. Blanch the spinach and bean sprouts in boiling water for a minute, then drain and rinse with cold water. Squeeze out excess water from the spinach. Sauté the sliced shiitake mushrooms.
  4. Fry the eggs: Fry the eggs to your liking, preferably with a runny yolk.
  5. Assemble the bibimbap: Divide the cooked rice among four bowls. Arrange the cooked beef, carrots, cucumber, spinach, bean sprouts, and mushrooms artfully on top of the rice.
  6. Top with an egg: Place a fried egg on top of each bowl.
  7. Add sauce and garnish: Add a dollop of gluten-free Gochujang sauce to each bowl. Sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  8. Mix and enjoy: Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly before eating.

Tips and Variations:

  • Use different vegetables like zucchini, bell peppers, or kimchi.
  • Add a sprinkle of nori seaweed for extra flavor.
  • Adjust the amount of Gochujang sauce to your spice preference.
  • For a vegan version, replace the beef with tofu or mushrooms and ensure your Gochujang is vegan-friendly.

Enjoy your delicious and healthy gluten-free Bibimbap! It’s a perfect meal for lunch or dinner, offering a satisfying and flavorful taste of Korean cuisine.
